PHILOSOPHY OF LAW
The role of law in a society is to promote order and to protect the lesser from the greater. The extent to which it succeeds in attaining both aims is a measure of the degree of civilization of the society.
In our society, lawyers are people trained in discerning the competing principles and concepts that make up our laws. As lawyers, we do not deal with what is “right” or “fair”, but with what conduct society permits, encourages, or protects.
Our society is fortunate to have many good lawyers who strive to balance individual and collective interests in ways that we feel are “right” and “fair”, constantly reaching for what we describe as “justice”.
